Conversation with Ms. Hideko Hadzialic on Sustainable Development – Challenges and Opportunities

The HKS Women's Network Japan chapter and the Harvard W3D Japan chapter are honored to have Ms. Hideko Hadzialic, a Director in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representation Office for the session on international development. 

Based on her 20 years’ experience of international development at the UN, she will be sharing her perspectives on international development programme in various regions around the world, policy planning processes with various stakeholders, and how to put her learning at HKS to good use in the international development field.

About Hideko Hadzialic

Ms. Hideko Hadzialic is a Director in the UNDP Representation Office. Ms. Hadzialic joined the UN in 2001, and since then worked in four regions (Asia and the Pacific; Western Balkans; Middle East and Africa) as well as two postings at the UNDP Headquarters in New York first with the Bureau for Development Policy as the UNDG Policy Network Manager for Millennium Development Goals (2007- 2010), and then Management Advisor for the Office of UN Assistant Secretary General/Bureau of Management (2014 – 2017). Prior to the current position, Ms.Hadzialic was posted in UNDP Sudan as the Deputy Country Director (Programme), overseeing the programme of over $75M annual delivery per year and fostered close collaboration with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur for the field implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2029, as well as UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to advance humanitarian development-peace nexus. 

Over 20 years with UNDP, UN and think tanks in three different continents.  Ms. Hadzialic is learning everyday from her clients from governments, business and people (young and old!), as a lifelong journey. She is interested in Artificial Intelligence and business innovations and their applications to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals. She recently completed a course on AI and its implications for Business Strategy at the MIT Sloan executive program. She enjoys working in Kuwait in support of the government's passion to advance innovation, public policies and business for sustainable development.

Ms. Hadzialic holds Master in Public Administration from JFK School of Government, Harvard University, and completed professional training on leadership for change and organizational renewal at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, and most recently on AI and machine learning at MIT Sloan.
