The Threo: The Harvard W3D Online Publication

A wise woman once said there's nothing a group of women can't get done by noon. Out of a few brief conversations among three W3D board members came an idea called Thrēo.

Thrēo is the Latin feminine root of three. From the original concept of W3D ten years ago, to the drive of three platform founders, Kelly Rappuchi, Litcy Kurisinkal, and Zaina Adamu dedicating themselves to providing a global audience with an independent platform fueled to cover bold, thought-provoking topics…

We are proud to present Thrēo, a first global storytelling platform for Defense, Diplomacy, and Development. Thrēo provides cutting-edge commentary to stimulate conversation and amplify women's voices with an ongoing mission to help readers better understand the world.

Submission details

Deadlines for quarterly issues are:

  • May 1, 2024 for the Summer Edition

  • August 1, 2024 for the Fall Edition

  • October 1, 2024 for the Winter Edition

We are looking for informed, forward-thinking storytelling at the intersection of defense, diplomacy and development (the “3Ds”). Our goal is to engage a broad audience in thinking and caring about compelling issues that are left uncovered or presented in ways that distance the reader. The publication will center on first-hand accounts, reader-friendly analysis, advocacy and strategies from local, national and global perspectives. We accept submissions from contributors with personal stories, insights or compelling ideas regardless of gender, age, views, background and so forth provided the content is related to one or more of the 3Ds. Please note the following guidelines.

  • We are seeking non-academic cutting-edge personal, editorial, short and long form, investigative, news, reviews and feature writing on topics surrounding the 3Ds.  Thrēo is not a traditional academic-style journal and therefore the writing style should engage and educate a broad audience.

  • We welcome short- or long-form video journalism pitches such as interviews, insights or field reporting. While we welcome the use of high-quality video equipment or direction, videos can be shot from simple mobile devices as long as the content is clearly understood and seen.

  • We welcome other formats related to one of the 3Ds such as art, photography, flash fiction or nonfiction and informative infographics either as stand-alone pieces or in support of written pieces.

  • Please be mindful that submissions should not be advertisements, promotional or press releases.

  • Submissions must be the original work of the author and must not have appeared in any other digital or print publication.

  • You may send a pitch, a pitch with a portion of your piece, or a completed submission. Please include a short bio and your location as well as links to writing or other digital samples (if any).

  • Pitches should include a compelling well-structured angle, a list of sources you intend to use (if applicable) and the names and titles or descriptions of people you plan to interview (if any).

Please submit to threoteam@gmail.com and include “SUBMISSION” in the Subject line.

In Memoriam

During the first meeting with our larger editorial team, Litcy Kurisinkal, one of our founders, received the call about her mother’s critical condition. Within two months, Mrs. Lilly Ludvic, who was an educator, art promoter, and philanthropist embraced eternal rest. As a first-generation woman graduate and a strong community leader, she was an inspiration to women and the larger society in Kochi, India. She lives forever in our hearts.
